NATIONAL AND UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

Visit planned for Thursday, May 20

The National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) was founded in 1607. It is a public institution of national interest which fulfills the duties of Croatian national library and the central library of the University of Zagreb. The National and University Library has a pivotal role in preserving the national intellectual and cultural heritage by collecting current editions under the provisions of the Legal Deposit Law and by publishing the national bibliography. The library is also engaged in research, development and advisory activities within the Croatian library system. In the 20th century the Croats built two buildings for their national library - a beautiful Art Nouveau building in 1913 and a modern crystal cube of serenity in 1995.
